The 5 Types Of Self- Love - Arawme

There was once a beautiful stranger I met during my travels.

He would walk barefoot everywhere in Nature until the calluses appear under his foot- earthing by the way. He would keep his cigarette butts in a potable container wherever he goes. He was of course, if you presume- a vegetarian. Like me, he held very, very strong and great admiration for Nature. In one of our deep conversations, when we talked about relationships, he told me confidently that he was focusing on loving himself and Mother Nature. That line alone surprised me and I was taken aback. And when I asked if he was, at that moment ready to love someone else, he replied very calmly that he was. We spent the next few days diving, exploring waterfalls and sharing the magical moments of Nature in a very special place in Fiji. I knew for sure, this man really does love his Nature. He was probably the first person I know in my life who truly, understood and embraced what loving oneself was, before others. When I left, I made sure he knew how much his awareness and his certainty inspired me until this very day.

You are not a drop in the ocean,
you are an ocean in a drop.
— Rumi

self-love

Surely, we have all been through trials in our relationships. Surely, we had our hearts broken too.

But how many of us truly realized and understood the inherent lessons of why these relationships failed. If there were co-dependence, or self-sabotages tendencies, or mental health issues, or traumas and toxicities involved before jumping to another similar pattern with another person?

How many of us truly comprehended the failure of the relationship as a wounding of both parties and looked at it as an invitation to healing and finally, filling your own cup?

For me, it took about 3 painful heartaches (and yes, I do often wonder if my heart was really that indestructible) to realize these lessons.

To finally hold the awareness above it all and accept the invitation for healing and working on myself.

Self-love is not just feeling confident and having strong self-esteem of your physical capabilities and emotional attributes. Self-love co-exists with boundaries, resilience, acceptance, expansion and fluidity. It is the state of appreciation for oneself from our personal experiences to support our physical, psychological and spiritual growth. It is choosing to embrace your flaws and celebrating your strengths. Very often, we overlook self-love in the busyness of our life or override them with other responsibilities/commitments towards others. We did not realize that each time when we disengage with our needs and the attention to ourselves, we are giving our power away. When we honor the container of our needs, we learn to be responsible for them and celebrate us.

Because darling, that person in that mirror- has so much to celebrate for.

It may dawn on you already that you can never depend and/or receive happiness from others unless you own that happiness within you right now.

When was the last time you celebrated you?

How did you celebrate you today?

How can you celebrate you today?

Why not begin now?

What are yours?

Grab a journal and a pen. Listen to your heart when you write them down. Put your non-dominant hand on your heart when you write what each type means to you. Be mindful of what arises. Pick your needs, not your wants. Write them down and stick them somewhere where it will be visible to you the entire day ( a wall in front of your desk/your phone etc). Commit to them. Your commitments define you, so let self-love be the nurturer of your growth and your expansion today and every day of your life. Learn to admire your scars, after all, it has made you, you.

Your relationship with yourself sets the tone for every other relationship you have. Having strong boundaries is important too and you can read more about them here.
