The alarm rings.

You press the snooze button. It rings again. You reach out to your phone underneath your pillow. You check into Whatsapp, Instagram, Twitter or Facebook for notifications. You start clearing the emails that have been accumulating the night before. You hobble into the shower. You get dressed. You make yourself a glass of water, or coffee, or smoothie, or run straight through the door with your half strewn laces for you are running late- again. You hop into your car or your daily commute and begin your day just like you would every day.

Now, that is a routine.

Definition of a Routine

A routine is basically a sequence of actions that you do repeatedly. It is second nature for you have been doing it for years. Routines are made of a chain of habits done religiously overtime. However, a routine doesn’t necessarily sets your day up for positive note or reaps any benefits for your well being.

A daily ritual is a way of saying I am voting for myself; I am taking care of myself.
— Martel Hemingway

Power of Daily Rituals

Now here is where rituals come in.

Rituals are similar to routines, but taken through a course of actions with a purpose driven mentality rather than a simple mean of getting it done.

In short, they are empowering routines. Daily rituals are carried out with mindfulness at the back of the mind. They centre around proactivity rather than reactivity. A good ritual sets you off the right track for your day and rest for the night by creating a sacred mental space to elevate productivity. It also allows you to manage your emotions, fosters awareness-dense activities to fully charge and set or end your day. It You will feel grounded, energised, calmer, clear headed, driven and more empowered. It is a dedication towards self care, well being and personal growth.

As humans, we are creature of habits. We thrive on habits that runs on autopilot. In this book I so very adore of Charles Duhigg, The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business, he explains how habits put our brain into an automatic state with little or no willpower. He channels the understanding in a flow cycle he calls, The Habit Loop.

The Habit Loop consists of The Cue, The Routine and The Reward. The idea is to determine these three points when designing your rituals towards any areas in your life which you wish to enhance, elevate, change, with mindfulness at the back of your mind.

Many successful people like Tony Robbins, Oprah Winfrey, Tim Cook have primed their daily morning ritual to enhance the way they start their day. I personally attest to and practice two daily rituals. I call them my daily sacred rituals.

One is a daily morning ritual primed for the best start of my day. The other is a daily evening ritual primed for the best rest for the next day.

My morning ritual is designed to maximise productivity and proactivity and my evening ritual is designed for deep rejuvenating rest. And both integrate mindfulness at the back of the mind.

In my next post, I will talk about what they specifically are and my tips on how to stay true and stick to it! I hope I inspired and uplifted you a little today. Stay tuned!

Love and light,

Sylvia
