The Soul-Led Business Trap: When Alignment Becomes Another Form of Hustle
Soul-Led Business, Unearthing Projectorhood
In my work with business owners so far, one of the most common themes of misalignment they come to me for wasnβt solely because they were tired and burned out. Yes, those were the symptoms, but they all pointed to a bigger and underlying root problem that often goes unnoticed: They were still hustling.
As a business owner myself, I remember in my early days of entrepreneurship feeling, and knowing deeply, that I was not meant to do business the traditional way.
I knew what I did not want as a business owner:
Work harder.
Scale faster.
Cold calls by DMs or messages.
Do more.
Optimize everything.
Build an audience at all costs.
Turn every hour into revenue.
Build an empire.
Burnout.
And then the notion of soul-led business came to my life. This is what I term a soul-led business below:
A soul-led business is one that thrives on magnetism through your frequency, not on forceful, pushy marketing strategies. It is led by capacity and foundation first before strategy. It invites the right people in through resonance and clarity. It scales only when aligned with oneβs values, capacity, and joy. A soul-led business is one where strategy and creativity operate as a living tool, moving with purpose and resonance. A soul-led business is where visibility is approached as an opportunity to be seen authentically.
A soul-led business is a living alchemy that expands alongside you.
And alongside that, in building a business as a soul-led business owner, I learned the importance of healing, nervous system regulation, feminine + masculine energies, mindset work, self-concept, and manifestation.
And suddenly, I noticed a recurring self-constraint that kept me and my practices stuck in hustlehood. It looks like this:
βI need to become the version of me who can hold more.β
βI'm not taking enough aligned action.β
βWhy am I resisting this?β
βWhat is the resistance teaching me? How can I overcome it?β
βI just need to align with my upgrade identity.β
βMaybe I need to heal this xxx before I can achieve, do, or arrive at this.β
I need, I have to⦠You get the gist.
Human Design changed everything for me.
It taught me to align with my divinity, my gifts, and my energetic capacity first before everything else. However, the real work begins when we embody our design, noticing and observing rather than treating ourselves as a problem to be fixed. And most of all, doing all of these gently.
Hustle can exist even in a soul-led business.
And that is a common theme I see among many business owners, including and especially those who have derived success in their businesses, except it is hidden in plain sight by themselves or embellished in a spiritual language, until symptoms of exhaustion and burnout reveals itself to them.
Explore 5 subtle ways hustle can disguise itself as soul-led business below:
β¦
Aligned Action becomes another productivity metric
One of the most profound shifts for a soul-led business owner is moving from action fueled by urgency, fear, or external expectations to aligned action that feels aligned with our desires. However, very often, somewhere along the way, βaligned actionβ can subtly become another productivity metric.
βWhat is my next aligned action?β
What am I being called to do?
What's the next step?
What am I supposed to create?
What should I be launching?
What action will move me toward my next level?
And when asked these questions daily, with an underlying belief that there must always be a next step (to create, to sell, to promote, to launch), we are also consciously reinforcing our sense of worth and safety by how much our business advances. Aligned action simply became a fancier, spiritual vocabulary.
Hence, as soul-led business owners, we are encouraged to deepen our discernment muscle through our Authority in Human Design. Sometimes aligned action can look like sending that email, writing that article, recording that reel; and sometimes it is doing nothing at all, or taking that weekend trip or being in stillness, because your capacity demands it. And you do that, because your worthiness and sense of security are not measured by productivity or turning every opportune moment into action.

Surrender becomes a thing to achieve rather than embody
To surrender is one of the most beautiful concepts in the world.
We are invited to soften our grip. To trust timing. To stop forcing. To allow. To let life unfold.
But even surrender can become another thing we are trying to get right and perfect into form. I have to surrender and not control the process. If I stop forcing, the right clients will find me. If I trust the timing, my business will finally take off. It became another word you have to itemize in your inventory of to-do(s). The truth is, surrendering is not about figuring it all out, but about your relationship with your desires and sitting with uncertainty rather than attaching it to a specific outcome or timeline. It does not carry the energy of an agenda disguised as a spiritual word; rather, it is an inexorable courage and trust you consistently choose to embody.

Nervous system regulation becomes another self-improvement project
Have you ever had a terrible launch or live call with zero sign-ups or attendees? If you are a business owner or desire to be one, you probably experienced one of these moments where self-doubt creeps in, and your nervous system experiences a kick in the pit. And you wonder if you were forcing/pushing or dysregulated to begin with?
With modern technology, knowledge and information more readily available to us than ever before, one can often jump too quickly to unwarranted assumptions and self-diagnosis. (Tell me you have not ask Google/Chat for a solution?) And without adequate discernment and self-agency, it can feel too personal and demoralizing.
We often blame our dysregulation and mould our outcomes as a form of self-improvement project:
I am not ready to launch because my nervous system isn't regulated.
I did not convert any clients because I was creating from urgency rather than resonance.
I did not reach this income goal because my nervous system cannot hold more.
I am not receiving enough because I have an abundance block.
I am afraid to be visible because I need to regulate.
There is always something to heal, some mental blocks to overcome and flatten, some regulation required, or an emotion to alchemize. There is a deep-seated belief that the external reality is evidence that there is always something wrong with you. This self-supervision and shame are encoded as hustle energy.

money as the only measure of receptivity
The art of receiving, also known as receivership, is something I teach to all of my soft business and Projector clients. In business, healthy receivership is often measured by the arrival of transactions:
I embody healthy receivership in business only when money arrives, when clients find me, when my followers and like count increase, when my funnel converts, when my business grows and expands⦠and so forth.
Receiving becomes tied only to money.
But receivership is a lot more than money alone. It dictates every area of your lifeβ every relationship, your sense of worthiness, your values, your boundaries, your relationship with yourself. Receivership is encoded in every interaction with the world. Money is just the biggest amplifier of your present value system. Your relationship with money is the clearest indicator of whether you are embodying healthy receivership.
Sometimes healthy receptivity looks like money arriving unexpectedly; sometimes it is letting someone support you, sometimes it is accepting a favor or compliment, sometimes it is allowing yourself to be guided by someone a few steps ahead of your in business, sometimes it is buying that expensive candle you always wanted, sometimes it is taking a hard look at your finances, sometimes it is sitting under the afternoon sun, eyes closed, deep breaths and a heart full of gratitude.
So what is your relationship to receivership looking like right now?

There is a misconception I wish to clarify about what a soul-led business means. It does not mean you can never have goals. It does not mean you should not care about money. It does not mean you should never raise your prices. It does not mean you should not put yourself out there and market yourself. It does not mean you should not build systems or ever want to have an empire (you absolutely can if you want to!). It does not mean your material desires and ambitions are too much to ask for.
It is all of the above and more. Hustle is neither inherently good nor bad. It is a matter of, βDoes this align with who I am, my values, and what my business stands for?β It is intention behind it that sets it apart.
My final question for your contemplation today is this:
Is your business asking you to become more of yourself, or is it constantly asking you to become someone who can produce more?
